NFL Training Camp is set to begin for all three Florida Teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars begin July 29th at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, and the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers begin on July 30th (the Dolphins are training at the Dolphins Training Facility in Davie Florida and the Bucs are at One Buccaneer Place near Raymond James Stadium). If you have some free time over the next week, and are in those areas, check it out, some portions of training camp are open to the public, and sometimes it’s free admission, check out team websites for more info. With the start of training camp obviously comes the anticipation of the beginning of the season. As far as an overall whole, the NFL for the state of Florida this upcoming season might not be very exciting, Floridians might want to stick to college football this season, but the Miami Dolphins are possibly in a position to shake things up in the AFC. It’s funny how both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins have the same biggest question mark heading into this season, both teams are going to experience young, talented QB’s in their first season as a full-time starter in the NFL. Last year Fins QB Chad Henne came into the equation after starter Chad Pennington got hurt. Henne won 7 games in his first 13 starts in the NFL, tying for 6th all-time among Dolphins QB’s through their first 13 games.
Freeman didn’t fare as well for the Bucs, only winning 3 games in his first 9 starts. And you can’t forget that 2 game stretch for Freeman where he didn’t throw a single touchdown, but did manage to throw the ball to the other team, 8 times, tallying 8 INT’s in 2 games, with no touchdowns in loses to the Panthers and Jets. But you can call those growing pains I guess. But the Dolphins are better positioned as an all around team to do some damage this year, and could possibly go deep into the playoffs. And as far as the Jags go….does anyone REALLY care about the Jags? There is only one reason I ever pay attention to the Jags and that’s because of University of Florida standout Reggie Nelson tries (I’m sorry but he stinks) to play for them, and he’s from my hometown in Florida.
