I had the pleasure to meet my friend Tommie Battle AKA BoneyStarks in 2004 during his brief visit to Orlando. Even back then, I knew this dude was going to be doin’ big things.

Somewhat of a NT legend, Tommie (or MyTSharp to the community) is now shooting photos for amazing concerts (and other amazing events), tweeting until he can’t tweet no more (Seriously, he’s hilarious, follow him – Thank Me Later).

On top of the photography, The Black Hey Zeus (another one of his many aliases) has a knack for putting together some great 60-90 minute Hip-Hop/R&B online podcasts that are definitely worth checking out. His latest is a tribute to the mighty MF Doom (You can download it: Here)that will be getting lots of burn on the iPod and in the car.

It’s an honor to have met Tommie and to have remained friends (whether if only through the powers of the Internet) is an amazing tell of the modern ways of technology. His work is inspiring and his grind is completely motivating.

Through my daily scouring of the Internet, I came across some amazing photographs of different artists modern twists on the ancient art form of Origami. For some more insane photos like the one above (that is really a city built out of paper!), keep reading after the jump.

“Wataru Ito, an origami artist from Japan, spent four years creating this model city named Castle on the Ocean. This 2.4 meter by 1.8 meter by 1 meter high city went on display at an exhibition on the artificial island of Umihotaru, near Tokyo, Japan. Plans for the display after the exhibition? Mr. Ito plans to burn the paper city down.”

“French origami master Eric Joisel made this snail out of one piece of wet-folded rectangular paper.”

“Created for a bookstore in the Czech Repulic, this papercraft delivered a powerful message for a series of advertisements to promote reading to children.”

“Won Park, a self-proclaimed “money folder”, created this koi fish out of an American one dollar bill.”

“These three figurines were inspired by The Lord of the Rings characters. Each model was made from only one sheet of uncut paper.”

College Football Week 1: What to Watch For

College Football is finally here, and Thursday night Miami, Ohio State and South Carolina all showed that they’re ready. Miami looks like they’re not only ready to take the ACC, but seriously contend for a BCS National Title. Ohio State, a team always in the running for a BCS National Title, took care of their opening game in convincing fashion, as did South Carolina. USC opened up on Thursday night and it wasn’t their offense that looked lackluster, it was the defense. But in week 1 of the college football season, Thursday night was just the icebreaker and there is more to look forward to over the next 4 days. Culture Climax will break down the top 5 games to watch each and every week:

1. #3 Boise State vs. #10 Virginia Tech: Monday Night 8pm on ESPN

Both teams are looking to make strides towards a national championship, and a Monday night football special will only help the winner of this game as all eyes will be watching. Boise State, not being a member of a BCS conference needs this win more than VA Tech does. But a win over Boise State means that VA Tech would be back as a national contender.

2. #24 Oregon State vs. #6 TCU: Saturday Night 7:45pm on ESPN

Another big time match-up between a BCS powerhouse conference and a non-BCS conference as the Beavers take on the Horned Frogs. The Pac-10 is up for grabs and a win over a top 10 school would be huge for Oregon State, a win for TCU would more than likely spell BCS-Buster come January.

3. #21 LSU vs. #18 UNC: Saturday Night 8pm on ABC

UNC is facing multiple suspensions for this game, which is exactly what Butch Davis and the Heels did not want. What was supposed to be UNC’s breakout year in football, might end up as a disappointing year in Chapel Hill.

4. UConn vs. Michigan: Saturday 3:30pm on ABC

UConn has quietly made huge strides in the Big East, while Michigan has gone the opposite direction in the Big 10. Michigan head Coach Rich Rodriguez is on thin ice and another sub-par season for him might cost him his job.

5. Miami of Ohio vs. #4 Florida: Saturday 12pm on ESPN

I guess life does go on after Tim Tebow for the Gators. But let’s be real here, has there ever been a team ranked in the preseason top 5 that didn’t get the attention they deserve like the 2010 Florida Gators? The Florida Gators lost a lot, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but I don’t see the Gators hurting that bad. Top 5 recruiting classes in each of the past 5 years will help UF tremendously. John Brantley will step into some pretty big shoes at QB for UF, but Brantley might end up being a better pure QB than Tebow was for UF.

Other Notable Games:

South Dakota vs. UCF: Saturday Night 6pm

UCF can take C-USA this year, but UCF is one day away from opening up their season and a starting QB still hasn’t been named for the Knights.

Samford vs. #20 FSU: Saturday 12pm on ESPN-U

The Bobby Bowden era is over a FSU, and for the first time since 1976 FSU opens a football season without Bobby calling the shots. Just like John Brantley at Florida, new head Coach Jimbo Fisher has some pretty big shoes to fill.

Stony Brook vs. USF: Saturday 7:05pm on ESPN 3

As a journalist I am supposed to remain unbiased when it comes to reporting sports, but as a UCF grad, I could care less about that unsaid journalistic creed, USF sucks…GO KNIGHTS!
